A friend made a comment the other day that I found interesting. The comment was “the people that blog on MySpace are just trying to manipulate people”. They immediately followed that comment up with quick look at me and muttered disclaimer that they obviously didn’t mean that I did that… but other MySpacers…
This got me thinking and I have to agree with their assessment and to a certain degree I have to add myself to the pool. Some MySpace bloggers are of the hit you repeatedly over the head with a baseball bat variety. Whereas, I like to think that I’m a bit more subtle. When I write stuff in my blog, I’m usually trying to get the reader (either all readers or maybe one specific reader) to see something about themselves (or others) that they either haven’t or have choose to ignore.
I try not to be TOO obvious about who I’m talking to or exactly what I’m saying, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t an agenda (plausible deny ability, you know). Many times, I’m trying to tell someone something that I think they should know without hurting their feelings. It all falls back to the old, if it’s your idea, it’s a better idea than if it’s my idea philosophy. My job, as I see it, is to plant little idea seeds in your head so they grow to become your ideas…
Now don’t get me wrong, sometimes I’m simply venting or I’m a bit… shall we say, chemically mood enhanced (and before anyone freaks out – for those of you who don’t know – I don’t do illegal drugs but I’m not above a drink or two). And then again sometimes I just feel like spewing some words on to my blog to watch people squirm TRYING to figure out if I’m talking to or about them….
Simple, huh? Has it ever been successful, not as far as I can tell, but I’m an optimist sometimes and keep trying. 😉
